When this concert happened (1990) I was still in high school. Still far from being far from home in my heart and mind. Going to college, while I was always confident it would happen, wasn’t something I considered a happy decision. I was going to miss family. I was leaving good friends. Some behind. Some forever. I was taking with me all the music I knew and, excited and little afraid of what would come, a bit of hope for new meanings of life and who I am.

The Dead was new and the Jerry Garcia Band was even more unknown. JGB revealed itself through the song and album Cats Under The Stars (1978). I probably heard it in 1991 along with Without A Net (all on CD).

I’m just now starting to dig into the JGB’s catalog (35 years later). I dabbled with the Dead on and off since 1991.

I’d be remiss to not have this live concert album. JGB was Jerry’s side gig from 1975 to his death in 1995. The members revolved around JG like the sun, it featured a revolving lineup, and allowed for deep improvisation, focused on blues, reggae, and R&B covers. I see more JGB coming down the line.
